The Afghan Journalists in Exile Network (AJEN) is a France-based association established in 2023 to support Afghan journalists affected by censorship, persecution, and displacement following the Taliban’s return to power.

After August 2021, over 643 media professionals lost their jobs and 162 media outlets closed. We provide a lifeline for exiled journalists, enabling them to continue their vital work while supporting colleagues still in Afghanistan who risk their lives to report the truth.

Established in France in June 2023, AJEN supports Afghan journalists displaced by the Taliban’s return to power. We unite over 6,400 media professionals who lost their livelihoods when 231 outlets closed, providing a lifeline for those in exile and still reporting from Afghanistan.

We defend press freedom by supporting journalists in exile with resources, networks, and advocacy. We amplify voices silenced by Taliban censorship, provide emergency aid to those at risk, and ensure independent Afghan journalism survives beyond borders.

We provide emergency evacuations, financial support, legal aid, and professional training. Our network facilitates investigative reporting, mental health support, advocacy with international organizations, and platforms for journalists to continue their crucial work safely.
